If you’re a parent of an athlete, you know how common it is for accidents to happen during a sports game. Muscles get strained, knees scrape on the ground, and ankles get twisted. So, I’ve made a list for you so you can create your own Holistic First Aid Kit For Athletes.
1. Compression bandages
Wrap these tight to apply compression on sprained muscles. This will help to reduce swelling. Be sure not to wrap too tight–numbness, odd coloring, and tingling are bad signs.
2. Manuka Honey 16+ UMF or higher
The triple antibiotic properties of Manuka honey make it excellent for wound care. Smear directly on an open wound and then cover with a bandage. The honey kills and prevents bacteria from colonizing. Use instead of Neosporin.
3. Arnica gel
Arnica is used extensively for strengthening joints and muscles. It also increases circulation and prevents bruises. Use on pulled muscles and Charley horses. Don’t use on open wounds.
4. Homeopathic Arnica Montana 30c
These tablets are taken orally to relieve muscle pain and swelling, similar to ibuprofen.
5. Rescue Remedy
Rescue Remedy is a Bach Flower Remedy created to allow your body to deal with emergencies and traumas. It stops the fight or flight response so your body can focus on healing during a traumatic time. Use if your child sustains a concussion, broken bone, or other traumatic injury.
6. Tea Tree Essential Oil
This oil can be used as a disinfectant, expectorant, and insecticide. Apply on skin to disinfect it or to keep biting bugs away during night games.
7. Colloidal Silver Gel
This product is antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal. It reduces inflammation and provides microbial support. Use on wounds for cleaning or on feet to treat athlete’s foot.
8. Wound wash saline
Use wound wash saline to wash debris (grass, dirt, gravel) out of wounds.
Take turmeric capsules to reduce inflammation and alleviate joint pain.
10. Cayenne capsules
Take cayenne capsules to slow blood loss at injury site. It will promote healthy blood coagulation and general heart health.
